Please Let Me Talk to You 

New Release from Charlie Bommarito & Percolations!

 

This new and rarefied collection centers itself in the realms of resonance and space. The first piece, Bop Ra, is dedicated to pioneer music/space visionary, Sun Ra.  In an energetic, raucous tribute, Charlie Bommarito and Percolations band members are joined by the dazzlingly colorful Samantha Boshnack on trumpet; Jakael Tristram and Chaz Bommarito provide their characteristic uplifting rhythm support.  Next in line is EXP – Up from the Skies, originally released by Jimi Hendrix as two pieces in 1967 on his milestone album Axis: Bold as Love. EXP starts with an interview of an expert on UFOs, who seems to himself gradually morph into an alien being, along with the interviewer.  As we transition to Up from the Skies, the alien then describes his distress at observing human behavior and pleads – “Please, let me talk to you.”  The lyrics in this piece, eerily and jarringly prophetic, provide the title for the album.  The last three selections form a musical suite entitled Bell Forest Loop, reminiscent of a meditative stroll through a woodland replete with bells and tinkling streams.  In the first offering, Resonant Beings, a wide array of hanging percussion, bells, chimes, and gongs are intertwined with the sensitive trumpet-work of Samantha Boshnack to provide a soothing tapestry of presence.  In Watercourse Way, the extended piano and guitar duet portrays the Taoist principle that water humbly seeks the lowest places, and yet in the end covers everything.  In the final piece, Rare Birds, avian species trumpet their tones from the branches and gradually make way for the quiet ending of our bell forest journey.
